Cost
$695 for the Unichip ECU. $400 for installation and tuning including dyno plots pre and post installation. Optional Unichip boost controller (to increase boost across the rev range) is $400 fitted and tuned.

Background
Peter Luxon is an absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to performance enhancements for the WRX. APS own three WRXs for R&D purposes leaving little doubt they know the car inside and out. I found Peter was able to explain things simply and concisely without hype or fuss and speaks in facts and figures he can justify. Robert Rapisarda is Peter’s right hand man and a vital part of APS. Robert has been in the tuning industry for 16 years and is also an expert at tuning Motec ECUs. Robert installs and dynos all Unichips that go through the workshop.

Features
The Unichip has 12 throttle positions and 17rpm positions (which are manually adjustable) giving a total of 204 possible settings in which the ignition and air / fuel maps can be altered. The ECU is able to adjust the ignition timing by up to 15 degrees (advance or retard) from the factory Subaru setting.

Peak boost can be upped mechanically with just the Unichip fitted but APS recommend the boost controller module as this allows for increased boost throughout the rev range at all throttle positions.

As the Unichip piggybacks onto the factory ECU, it leaves a lot of the factory functions in place such as the knock sensors, cold start, air and water temperature compensation, rev and boost cuts.

The Unichip can be configured to allow the driver to switch between two maps. One can be set up for normal driving and one for more aggressive (track) driving if you prefer. APS are also developing a "launch" setting which will allow the driver to set a max rpm for fast launches. The Unichip would act as a rev limiter at this rpm allowing the driver to have his foot firmly planted on the throttle before releasing the clutch. This would help eliminate both clutch slip and bogging down when launching. The Unichip is also able to drive external devices like intercooler water sprays.

The Unichip has been tested on a MY97 and MY98 at the E.P.A. laboratory in Melbourne and complies with all A.D.R. emission requirements.

APS offer a 100% 30 day money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with the installation or performance of the Unichip.
