Background
Although the Microtech is made by a Sydney
based company of the same name, BGT market it in Melbourne under their
own name (the BGT ECU). Vin was adamant to point this out, but for the
purposes of ease and to avoid confusion, I shall continue to refer to it
here as the Microtech.
The ECU is a full replacement unit for
the WRX. BGT also offer a piggyback model to allow fitting to other cars
(the MT8 version of the Microtech). The piggyback unit can be fitted to
the MY99 if the customer really wants one.
Vin has been in the industry for over 13
years and has worked with Motec, Autronics, Wolf and Haltec systems in
that time. BGT own a highly modified WRX wagon, which Vin races and uses
for development work.
BGT tune all cars on their own in-house
4WD dyno.
Features
The Microtech offers a host of functionality,
most of which are best summarised on the BGT web site. There are 16 load
and 16rpm sites giving a total of 256 mappable points. The rpm sites are
spaced at 500rpm intervals from 500 through 8000rpm and are not changeable.
There are 16 boost levels spread over the same rpm increments.
The Microtech offers data logging for the
serious punter and BGT will sell you their tuning handset ($165) to allow
this. The "enter" key is disabled to stop users altering the tune however.
The ECU comes with two memory settings
to allow switching between maps if the user prefers (for the track and
highway say). More memory modules can be added if the user wants to switch
between more than two maps.
BGT were quick to point out that the Microtech
has many safety features. One of these is the air temperature sensor (which
is fitted with the ECU). This monitors the air intake temps and adjusts
fuel if too high.
BGT offer a 30 day money back guarantee
and 12 month warranty. |
