Effective heat shielding of exhaust components is very important not only protect engine bay components but also for engine performance.
A turbocharger relies on having the greatest amount of exhaust gas energy available in order to deliver the greatest response and power possible. This means that the maximum amount of heat must be retained within the exhaust header system in order to transfer that directly to the turbocharger.
